Cookie Policy

The short version

This website sets no cookies of its own, stores nothing in your browser, and runs no analytics. That is why you were not greeted by a consent banner asking you to accept things you did not want.

Why there is no banner

Consent banners exist because most sites load tracking that the law requires them to ask permission for. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, permission is only needed for storage that is not strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. We do not use any, so there is nothing to ask you about.

Concretely, this site does not use Google Analytics or any other analytics package, does not carry advertising or remarketing tags, does not embed social media widgets, and does not load fonts or scripts from third party networks. The typefaces you are reading are served from our own domain rather than fetched from a font provider, so visiting this page does not report you to anyone.

The one exception

This site sits behind Cloudflare, which protects it from attack and keeps it online. If Cloudflare needs to tell a genuine visitor apart from an automated one, it may set a strictly necessary security cookie such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance. These carry no advertising identifier and are not used to profile you. They exist to keep the site available, they are short lived, and under the regulations above they are exempt from consent.

You will not usually see one at all. Ordinary visits to this site currently return no cookies whatsoever.

Email is a separate matter

If you are subscribed to our email, those messages do include open and click tracking, so we can tell whether what we send is worth reading. That works through a tracking image and redirect links rather than cookies, and it is described in our Privacy Policy. Every message we send carries an unsubscribe link.

Our other products

Fieldify is a signed in application and necessarily behaves differently, since it needs a session to keep you logged in. It has its own cookie policy, which applies there rather than here.

Managing cookies yourself

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies, usually under privacy or site settings. Blocking everything on this site will not break it, because there is nothing here that depends on it.

If this changes

If we ever add something that sets a non essential cookie, we will ask for your consent before it runs, and update this page to say what it is and why. We would rather explain a short list honestly than present a long one and hope nobody reads it.
